Education and Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has become part of everyday life, and the educational sector is no exception. However, from the beginning, a concern has emerged: how do we prevent students from relying on AI to complete their homework, exams, or assignments entirely for them? Although evaluations can be conducted in a traditional format, using only paper and pencil, this alone does not guarantee real learning.

First, the issue lies in the fact that tools such as ChatGPT have become an easy way to complete school assignments. Many students use them as a shortcut that provides quick and complete answers without any effort. However, this apparent advantage limits their own development, as it reduces opportunities to acquire knowledge and strengthen essential skills that are part of their educational process.

We must understand how learning works and what is necessary for students to truly internalize new topics. Studies in educational psychology show that meaningful learning occurs when there is a certain level of challenge or difficulty. In other words, when a person faces a problem that slightly exceeds their current abilities. This type of learning requires focus, effort, and time, and it applies not only to academic education but to life in general.

Does this mean we should eliminate the use of artificial intelligence?

Not at all. Artificial intelligence is ultimately a tool, and it can be very useful when used with a learning-oriented intention. What should be encouraged is an environment that promotes genuine learning, and that students understand the importance of developing their own skills and knowledge.
